Mahwah PD: ID Theft Suspects Had $31,000 Cash, Cellphones, Credit Cards

MAHWAH, N.J. – Mahwah police seized $31,000 in cash, along various forms of identification, more than a dozen cellphones and a number of credit and gift cards from two men who they suspect are part of a stolen ID ring.

During the search, Boucher found two shopping bags, “Each containing bundles of U.S. currency packaged in such a manner that is consistent with criminal activity – specifically narcotic sales,” Batelli said.

He also found two more bags of cash, along with more than 15 cellphones, various forms of ID not in either man’s name, the credit and gift cards and the pot, the chief said.

Peterkin was charged with possession of marijuana and Walker with transporting property believed to be derived from criminal activity and possession of stolen credit cards, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, Batelli said.
