Hanover Park’s shot at Mahwah slips away, 17-14 – New Jersey Hills

EAST HANOVER TWP. – It’s a credit to the Hanover Park High School football team’s tenacity and determination that the Hornets even had a chance to tie their game against Mahwah last Friday night, Oct. 6.

The prior week, the subject of the post-game talk was “Finishing up the game.” This week’s talk may well be about “Not beating ourselves.” Hanover Park lost two fumbles and was intercepted once in the first half which accounted for 9 points off turnovers for Mahwah.

The Hanover Park defense rose to meet the challenge and on a fourth-and-one on their own 4-yard line, with linebacker Sean Conley leading the charge, the Hornets swarmed a Thunderbirds ball carrier and stopped Mahwah on downs.

Hanover Park didn’t give up and scrambled against Mahwah – and the clock – with no timeouts.
