A Bergen County man was arrested in Secaucus last week when an alert police officer on patrol noticed he was walking the street with a woman’s purse, authorities said.

Christopher Murano, 45, of Mahwah, was charged with two counts of theft of movable property and burglary, Secaucus Capt. Dennis Miller said. Murano was also arrested a $500 outstanding warrant out of Paramus.

Police Officer Roderick Aninipot was in the area of Hops Lane and Paterson Plank Road at 12:50 a.m. on July 10 when he spotted Murano walking in the residential area, Miller said.

Aninipot stopped Murano and found that he was wanted on the warrant and further investigation found that he burglarized two unlocked parked vehicles, Miller said. Mr. Murano was processed and transported to the Hudson County jail.

“This arrest was the result of the diligent efforts of Office Aninipot,” Miller said.

The captain also urged residents to lock their vehicle doors at all times, since most of those burglaries occur because the vehicles’ doors are not locked.
