MAHWAH, N.J. – Four juveniles were hospitalized – all with injuries that police said weren’t life-threatening – after a school bus slammed head-on into a tree in Mahwah early Tuesday evening.

The northbound Bergen Academies school bus was turning from East Crescent Avenue onto Masonicus Road around 5 p.m. when it was struck, Police Chief James N. Batelli told Daily Voice.

“The school bus then careened out of control and traveled an additional 100 feet easterly in the westbound lane before striking a tree in a head-on impact,” Batelli said.

The school bus was registered to John Leckie Inc. out of Hackensack.
