Mahwah Councilman Proposes County-Wide Eruv

MAHWAH, N.J. – Councilman David May was the first Mahwah council member to switch stances and propose a county-wide eruv to the Bergen County Freeholders.

May suggested that utility companies and eruv associations “Work towards a county-wide eruv” including all of Mahwah, which would enable Jewish adherents to carry objects and push strollers / wheelchairs on the Sabbath and Yom Kippur throughout Mahwah, Upper Saddle River and Montvale, as well as other locations in Bergen County.

Last year, Mahwah’s Council President wrote via Facebook that “The goal is to have everybody working together to make sure our poles stay clean in Mahwah”.

Last week, Mahwah voted to amend an ordinance that would have restricted public parks to residents, drawing anti-Semitic allegations.
