Letter: Doblin blowing ‘dog whistle’ on eruv – NorthJersey.com

A vandalized PVC pipe, marking an eruv, on Airmont Avenue in Mahwah.

“Mahwah’s eruv becomes the new Halloween costume.” His attempt to conflate the eruv issue into a cesspool of anti-Semitism, and to further politicize it, does not serve the needs of Mahwah or of Bergen County.

The enforcing of costume rules by the high school administration and the fact that the costumes never were allowed in the school is barely noted by Doblin; nor does he seem to understand the teenage joy in coming up with a costume that provokes adult reaction.

I would suggest a deeper look at the many and complex issues involved in the eruv in Mahwah would redeem the Record’s diminishing reputation as a responsible journalistic voice.
