Fears on rise in North Jersey after coyote pack surrounds woman and dog

Fear is growing among North Jersey residents after a particularly aggressive pack of coyotes ambushed a woman in Saddle River last week and tried to snatch the dog she was walking.

The pack of coyotes that ambushed the woman last week ran off after a passing motorist honked and got out of the car to scare them, Tyler said.

The incident was more aggressive than a typical sighting, because the coyote confronted the woman, but the dog was the clear target, Saddle River Capt. Jason Cosgriff said.

Cheryl Evans Cooper, who lives in Washington Township in Bergen County, has a small shih tzu, and says she is concerned about the safety of being outside with her dog, after the coyotes surrounded the woman last week with her pet.
