UPPER SADDLE RIVER – Religious liberties don’t let you break our laws.
That’s the strong response Upper Saddle River has given to a lawsuit filed by an Orthodox Jewish group seeking to complete a religious boundary from New York through the wealthy Bergen County town.
The town also wrote in its motion that Upper Saddle River is not similar to Tenafly, in which a judge ruled that the town failed to enforce a rule that prohibited residents using the poles so it could not prevent the eruv association from using them.
In Mahwah, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino accused the town of attempting to put in place rules that were discriminatory against Orthodox Jewish persons.
