Mahwah's comeback attempt against Randolph falls short

WAYNE – Coming off a rough game against Summit, Mahwah jumped right back into the fire in the Pepsi Holiday Classic at the Ice Vault, taking on Randolph in the second of its three games against top flight opponents.

Randolph had a 46-24 shots advantage and was buzzing the Thunderbird zone for a good portion of the game, and it paid off in the third period.

The T-Birds again took advantage of some open space as Johnston made a left side rush and took a feed from DeAlto and one-timed it into the short side for the 3-2 lead at 3:06 of the third period.

Special teams were a big part of the win, as Michael Anderson and Raftis had shorthanded goals in the first period and Josh Danzig sent home a power play goal with four seconds to go in the period for a 3-0 lead.Freshman Gabe Reis got his first varsity goal and Andy Chang and Julian Tallier scored to make it 6-0 before Montgomery scored late in the second and the only third period goal.
