MAHWAH – The driver of a stolen SUV got away Saturday morning, after police broke off a high-speed chase because of safety concerns, authorities said.
According to Police Chief James Batelli, the chase began around 3 a.m. Saturday when a Beverly Place resident called 911 to report that a silver 2016 Toyota Landcruiser was just stolen from his driveway.
Less than one minute later, a Franklin Lakes police officer advised he was behind the vehicle, Batelli said.
A short time after the chase was cut off, a State Police officer observed the vehicle on the Garden State Parkway and another pursuit was initiated, Batelli said.
