George Washington Elementary School in Mahwah was briefly evacuated Monday as authorities investigated a suspicious odor.
The odor appeared to come from a battery in a floor stripper, according to Police Chief James Batelli.
The police and fire departments responded to the Fardale Avenue school around 2:15 p.m. and evacuated about 175 students for 10 minutes, according to Batelli.
