MAHWAH, N.J. – The Center for Food Action in Mahwah got $5,000 worth of turkeys, $500 worth of soup and more for families in need, thanks to township police, the Mahwah Municipal Alliance and Inserra Supermarkets.
PBA Local #143 and its department colleagues set up a collection site at headquarters to collect turkeys, canned goods, stuffing and all the other ingredients necessary for a Thanksgiving dinner over three days.
Lt. Phillip Tangel spoke of the importance of officers “Giving back to the community they serve, especially during the holiday season. It was a collaborative effort between law enforcement, residents and the business community.”
Police collected and donated $2,500 worth of turkeys and $250 worth of soup – which was matched by Lawrence Inserra Jr. Blackman Plumbing Supply provided a truck and driver to make Saturday’s delivery.
