MAHWAH, N.J. – A Newark quintet had 57 coats worth more than $12,000 stolen from Macy’s in their minivan when it was stopped by a Mahwah police officer on Route 287, authorities said Friday.
Officer Tyler Boucher stopped the rented 2008 Dodge Caravan with Georgia registration for an unspecified violation on Thanksgiving Eve and spotted one of the occupants hiding beneath the coats, Police Chief James N. Batelli said.
The coats – with brand names that included Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Calvin Klein and Nautica – still had security tags on them, he said.
