MAHWAH, N.J. – A drunken passenger on a bus bound for a New York state prison bit one Mahwah police officer and injured another while resisting arrest, authorities said.
Sgt. Stacy Conley and Officer Daniel Stewart responded to a call of a disturbance at a Route 17 gas station, where a dispute involved 25-year-old Abel Juarbe of Queens, Police Chief James N. Batelli.
Conley and Stewart “Attempted to talk to Juarbe and arrange for another means of transportation for him when he became belligerent and failed to adhere to [their] directions,” Batelli said.
Officers Richard Albro and Timothy Letavish arrived and helped subdue Juarbe, the chief said.
