Mahwah mayor not backing down after 'no-confidence' vote

MAHWAH – One day after the Township Council took a “No confidence” vote against him, Mayor Bill Laforet doubled down on his criticism that the council should not have passed a “No-knock” ordinance and a ban on certain park activities while under investigation by the state.

Six of the council’s seven members voted that they have “No confidence” in Laforet Thursday night, accusing him of ignoring legal advice by commenting publicly on the “No-knock ordinance and the state investigation. Councilman Jonathan Wong said Laforet hurt the township’s position by suggesting that the new ordinances could be exclusionary.”The mayor has decided to put himself ahead of the township,” Hermansen said.
