MAHWAH – For two council incumbents elected in a decisive victory on Tuesday, Mahwah residents sent a clear message to an embattled governing body currently facing state and federal lawsuits: stay the course.
After township officials threatened to start issuing summonses if the eruv was not taken down, the group that put it up – the Bergen Rockland Eruv Association – filed a federal lawsuit against the town.

For Council President Robert Hermansen, who supports Ervin and May, Tuesday’s election was a repudiation of Mayor Bill Laforet, who of late has tried to distance himself from the state’s lawsuit.
