MAHWAH – Mahwah will begin its quest to three-peat, while Westwood will be looking for its revenge.
In a rematch of last year’s North 1, Group 2 sectional final at MetLife Stadium, Mahwah downed Westwood, 35-28, though it was the Cardinals who had possession late in the fourth in a tied game at 28 before a game-winning pick-six from Mahwah’s Jack Wood with 4:02 left gave the Thunderbirds their second consecutive title.
Now, it’s Westwood – who repeated itself as North 1, Group 2 champion in 2013 and 2014 – looking to get back to being the top dog in the bracket and it’ll start tonight on the road in Mahwah.
Back for his senior season is Westwood QB Sean Hopkins, who threw for over 200 yards and 4 TD passes in last year’s sectional final against Mahwah.
