She has raised her family here, sent her children to the public schools system, was an active volunteer in her kid’s activities, worked in the school system, volunteered in the community at large and has been an active participant in Mahwah politics as issues arose that needed a voice.
A board functions best when there is a mixture of experience and new blood and energy.
Yes, there is a learning curve, as there is for any new job, but new people bring fresh ideas, a new way of looking at things, and a zest that only comes from wanting to contribute in a new way.
