Joshua Green, 33, of Clifton, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by local and state authorities, according to Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.
The 17-year-old student told police Green, who was her art teacher, kissed her at his home in May 2015 and had sex with her in June of that year, according to NorthJersey.com, citing court records.
The girl told investigators Green gave her alcohol and the two had daily conversations over Google Chat, according to the report.
According to his LinkedIn profile, Green taught “Design & Illustration,” “Portfolio Development,” and “Art 1” at Mahwah High School for three years. He left in June 2016.
He currently teaches graphic design for the visual arts program at Plainfield Academy for the Arts and Advanced Studies, according to his profile. School principal Angela Bento was not immediately available for comment Friday morning.
Green, who is married, is charged with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, second-degree official misconduct and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was released without bail following a court hearing Thursday.
If convicted of all charges, Green faces 25 years in prison, parole supervision for life and registration as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, the prosecutor said.
Valdes asked that anyone with information about the case or other potential victims to contact the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit at 973-837-7736.
