Driver hospitalized, issued summons after car hits pole in Mahwah

A driver was hospitalized and issued a summons for careless driving after he drove his car into a utility pole in Mahwah on Tuesday, according to police.

The 27-year-old Bloomingdale man was transported to Valley Hospital with minor injuries to his face from the deployment of the air bag when he hit the pole on Darlington Avenue around 2:45 p.m., according to Mahwah Police Chief James N. Batelli.

The Mahwah Fire Department disconnected the battery from the car as there was reportedly smoke coming from the engine, according to Batelli.

The accident caused minor traffic delays, according to the police chief.
