MAHWAH, NJ – Two New York residents who were at the municipal building for court were arrested after a police K-9 unit found more than a 100 bags of heroin in their car, police said.
Detective Michael Grassi saw two people acting strangely after pulling into the Mahwah Municipal Building complex, said Chief James Batelli.
Mahwah K-9 Officer Robert Rapp and his dog Remco responded to the scene; Remco indicated that narcotics were in the vehicle and, during a subsequent search, police found 107 bags of heroin, 11 hypodermic needles and several items of drug paraphernalia, Batelli said.
Rauch and McCarthy were due in Mahwah Municipal Court for a hearing on previous arrests, Rauch for narcotics and motor vehicle violations and McCarthy for a criminal charge, Batelli said.
